Saddle Stitch	Side Stitch	Perfect	Fastback
Booklets lie flat, the staple is forced through the backbone or spine. Simplest and most inexpensive	Used when bulk is too great for Saddle Stitching, cannot be completely opened flat	Used to eliminate the expense of sewing and case binding. Widely used on paper back books, pages held by flexible adhesive	Similar to perfect binding, pages are bound with adhesive and strong tape. Long lasting and inexpensive.

Mechanical bindings are used for notebooks and other types of books which must open flat. The sheets are punched with a series of round or slotted holes on the binding edge. The wire, plastic coils or rings are inserted through the holes.
